The Ten Commandments

  • You shall have no other god but me.


  • You shall not make an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.


  • You shall not misuse the name of your God.


  • Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your Got.


  • Honour your father and mother.


  • You shall not murder.


  • You shall not commit adultery.


  • You shall not steal.


  • You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour.


  • You shall not covet your neighbour´s house, wife, servant, ox or donkey.



  • Beliefs

    Jews believe in one , who is the creator and lord of the universe. They believe that God has a special relationship with the Jewish people and if they live by God´s laws, they will be protected and rewarded with a place in a perfect future world. Jews are waiting for , who will one day visit the Earth and create this paradise by bringing peace and security to the whole world. Today, Judasim has about followers.

    The Promised Land

    The Bible tells of how God helped the Jewish people to escape from about three thousand years ago and how he promised land. They drove away the people living there and settled in their country. It became known as and had as its capital city. In 586 BC, Israel was conquered and its leaders exiled to Babylon. The Jews regained their freedom four hundred years later, but it was not long before they were conquered again, this time by the Romans. In AD 66, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the Jewish people fled around the world. They had no permanent homeland again until the modern state of Israel was created in .
